The Magic Bullet

Magic Bullet MBR-1101

The original bullet is the perfect personal blender to do all your grinding, mixing, mincing, whipping, and of course, blending. It offers 200 watts of power – an incredible amount for a blender of its age and price.

It is lightweight, making it very easy to carry. This is a particular feature that I love about the machine. At just 4.6 lbs, it’s easy to pick up and store.

The compact blender has been described as one of the best personal single-serve blenders from the moment it hit the market. Other than the arrays of features it packs, there is also the fact that it is cheaper than other popular blenders.

Add this to the fact that it does its blending without noise, and you have one of the best personal blenders even till now.

NutriBullet

NutriBullet NBR-1201

As pointed out earlier, it is a newer version of the Magic Bullet blender. As such, we lovers of all things fruit blending would expect it to be an upgrade and also to have modern features – well, it ticks all these boxes.

Simply put, it is a lovely and effective blending machine subtly designed like a bullet. One thing that makes this blender sleek is the absence of buttons and switches. You don’t need any button to switch on your blender, and it requires no need to change speed settings.

All you have to do is screw on any of the extractor or milling blades to a cup containing the ingredients, then push the cup down into the base of the blender and twist into place until the motor starts running. Trust me, this very easy to use [1].

NutriBullet Pro

NutriBullet NB9-1301

The biggest difference comes in the power rating. As expected, Nutribullet 900 watt (Pro) is an upgrade on the previously released Nutribullet 600 watt.

I found this model to be very powerful, effortlessly blending all of my favorite fruit mixes and veggie mix. The very moment I set my eyes on the Pro, I knew it would make for a great personal blender.

The machine is over 3 times more powerful than both its predecessors; what this means is that all the hard ingredients that the original Bullets find difficult to blend are turned into juice without fuss by NutriBullet Pro. It packs in a third more power than its predecessor, as seen in our Nutribullet vs. Nutribullet Pro compassion.

It also offers cups with more capacity than the original NB 600. The largest cup included with the NB 900, 32 oz, can hold more ingredients.

Blender is Best For

The entire point of having a review that compares both machines is to see which one would work better for you. And to do this, we have to touch on what the blenders are best suited for.

The Magic Bullet

person using blender

Magic Bullet comes with a lesser power rating (200 watts compared to the 600 watts rating of Nutri Bullet). As such, it is better suited for mixing soft ingredients. Anyone with the machine should stick to the blending of soft ingredients such as mango, apple, oranges, avocado, banana, and many more.

It also works well for mixing protein powder – if you are looking to make a drink out of your protein powders, then make use of Magic Bullet. It may not have the power of Nutribullet, but it blends these ingredients into a great mix that you can’t get enough of.

Magic Bullet also does a great job when mixing leafy green; for those of us who love our veggies, getting a nice mix is always important when you use a blender. Magic Bullet can be your single-serve blender for this.

Original NutriBullet (600-watts)

person using blender

On par with the Nutri Ninja, the area in which NutriBullet excels the most is its ability to crush ice. Many people love their drinks cold, and on some occasions, I do too. The motor has more than enough power to take care of the ice. For more information on the Ninja, please see our Nutribullet vs. Ninja comparison.

This blender is better suited to the task of blending frozen berries. Less powerful machines crush frozen berries partially, leaving in the cup a mix that contains tiny bits of berries. For some, this might not be an issue but for people who love consistency in their smoothies, it would be an issue.

For people like that, NutriBullet is the recommendable personal blender for you.

Nutribullet is also best suited for the millings of ingredients such as nuts and grains; I tried it out, and I didn’t get perfectly fine particles, but the result was good enough for use. The powerful 600-watt motor makes it a better option in the NutriBullet vs. Magic Bullet comparison.

  • Protein & green smoothies
  • Ice and Nuts
  • Ease of use
  • Value for money

NutriBullet Pro (900-watts)

person using blender 3

With greater power comes more responsibility, and trusts me, the NutriBullet 900 watt (Pro) is very impressive. The way it blends frozen foods has already made it many people’s favorite. Crushing ice with this machine is even easier and takes lesser time than with the original NB.

The NutriBullet 900 excels at the task of breaking down nuts and grains; for people who enjoy blending their grains, this machine will come in handy for this.

The fact that it has larger cups means that it can pack more ingredients; this makes it useful for people who love to consume more greens. This could be due to their diet or as a result of a medical doctor’s recommendation.

  • Powerful motor
  • Ice and nuts
  • Protein & green smoothies
  • Stringy vegetables
  • Ease of use

  • Plastic tabs on cups

Every blender owner knows that the accessories that come with it at the real cherry. It is from these accessories that you get your money’s worth. The essence of this review is to give you comprehensive information about what you’d be getting if you choose to purchase any of the blenders.

Magic Bullet

Here are the basic accessories that you would get right from the box of Bullet blender.

  • It comes with a short cup that has a capacity of 12 oz.
  • It comes with a tall cup that has a capacity of 18 oz.
  • Finally, you will get a party mug that has the same capacity as the tall cup.

You will also get 3 lids, 2 releasable lids, and 1 flip-top lid, as well as 2 lip rings. I will also add the 1-year warranty to its accessories.

NutriBullet

Here are the accompanying accessories of the original NutriBullet single-serve blender;

  • It comes in two cups with a capacity of 18 oz.
  • It comes with one cup with a capacity of 24 oz.
  • It has one blending emulsifying blade and one flat blade.
  • It comes with two lids.
  • It has two lip rings, one regular lip ring and another handled lip ring.

Other accessories come in the form of recipes; these are original recipes added to the box to ensure that users have a nutrient-filled mix. Many users who are new to the world of smoothies have really found this recipe useful.
Here are the accompanying recipes, called NutriBlast.

  • Toxin cleansing blast
  • Immune booster

I will also like to add the 1-year warranty to NutriBullet accessories.

NutriBullet Pro

Here are the accompanying accessories of the NutriBullet Pro 900 single-serve blender;

  • It comes in two cups with a capacity of 32 oz.
  • It comes with two flip-top travel lids.
  • It has one blending emulsifying blade.
  • It comes with two lids.
  • It has four lip rings, two regular lip rings, and two-handled lip rings.

It also comes with recipes that you will love when you purchase the machine. My personal favorite recipes are Blueberry and kiwi smoothie, Banana Smoothie, and the toxin cleansing blast recipe.

Concerns

What concerns have previous users had about these machines? In many years of online shopping and writing reviews, I have learned that the best insight/info you can get on a product is through customer reviews.
It is impossible to have a machine that is practical without any form of concern, and neither Magic Bullet nor Nutribullet will be changing that.

Magic Bullet

The biggest concern about the machine has always been how it handles hard ingredients. After reading through a number of reviews on Amazon and from personal experience, I’ve come to the conclusion that using this machine for hard ingredients is time-wasting. This is also minus to the machine in our challenge.

Recipes that require little liquid prove to be difficult for this machine to blend and users end up having to give the blender a little shake just so the ingredients can be pushed towards the blade.

Users have also raised concerns about how the machine chops and minces ingredients like garlic and onion. Some users have even gone as far as to say that traditional chef’s knife and the cutting board do a more uniform job than Magic Bullet (I find that to be an exaggeration, of course).

Another concern comes in the fact that Bullet comes with smaller cups when compared with newer models. Its largest cup is 18 oz. cup, which pales in comparison to the larger 32 oz. a cup that the NutriBullet blender packs. Don’t expect the Magic Bullet blender to give you a mix that you can share with a friend.

It also has lesser prongs on the blade in its comparison to NB 900 Pro, 4 prongs to 6 prongs.

NutriBullet

While NutriBullet does not have the same level of concerns as MagicBullet when it comes to breaking down hard ingredients, there are still some concerns with this modern blending machine.

Users have noted that the blender is not as fast as marketed by the manufacturer of the product. While this may seem not to be a big deal, one would still expect some degree of job (it gets the job done, though, which is the most important thing).

People who have purchased NutriBullet have also noted that the blades of the machine are not dishwasher safe. You can rinse with hand after use but don’t use a dishwasher.

NutriBullet Pro

Like all things before it, the NutriBullet Pro is not perfect. It holds less than a 5-star rating on Amazon – which means some customers already have some concerns about it. I also tried out to see if I would notice some of those concerns too, and I concluded at two major ones; the loudness of the motor and the leaks.

A motor of 900 watts rating would be expected to come with some degree of noise, and it would be almost impossible to have a silent machine like this. However, the level of noise of NutriBullet Pro may be described as ‘loud’.

Many users have raised concerns about this, and some have even called it intolerable. While I wouldn’t refer to it like that, it can really be annoying, especially for users who are sensitive to a lot of noise.

The second main concern about NutriBullet Pro comes in the leaks. Yes, I noticed some leaks, too, especially if the blade isn’t tightly screwed. What this means is that you have to make sure that the blades are tight enough and liquid from the ingredients doesn’t drip into the power base.

Final Thoughts

Magic Bullet is a fine piece of machinery for blending soft ingredients; it does this with a certain type of finesse that is unmatched by any other personal blender. It has some limitations, but that is understandable due to the fact that it is an old model.

If you are looking for a cheap option for personal blending of everyday shakes, go for Magic Bullet. However, for those of us that love to get creative with our blender, the features, motor power, and extra accessories of NutriBullet make it the better choice between the two.

You won’t get many differences in the body design of the two bullet blenders; Magic Bullet and NutriBullet are sleek and have the same mode of operation.

Magic Bullet and NutriBullet will offer you great value for money provided you stick to what they are suited for. The NutriBullet Pro is the best bullet blender in our Magic Bullet vs. NutriBullet review.
